Rihanna has designed a sci-fi sunglasses collection for Dior

{ (up)}

Is Rihanna the next Raf Simons?

Probably not. But she's clearly developed quite the taste for fashion design - hot on the heels of her Manolo Blahnik collab (not to mention Puma x Fenty), the star has been announced as the face and designer behind Dior's new sunglasses collection.

Simply titled Rihanna, the collection represents the second time RiRi has worked with the house, after appearing in their highly publicised Secret Garden IV campaign late last year, photographed by Steven Klein. But being a campaign face is one thing, and actually having a hand in designing the goods you represent is another entirely - it's a massive first for Dior, who has never before collaborated with one of its brand ambassadors.

Rihanna was inspired by the shades worn by La Forge in Star Trek for her debut eyewear collection, saying, "I've always been obsessed with his eyewear and when I got to Dior and saw all the materials I could play with, it all just came together." According to Dior's eyewear designer Mathieu Jamin, the R&B star was heavily involved in the design process. He told WWD that Rihanna "chose all the materials," adding, "She chose all the lenses and took time to match all the colours together to see if it was right on her face. It was really important to her."

The shades will be sold exclusively in Dior stores from June, and are available in silver, pink, blue, green and red - plus an exclusive 24-carat gold design.
