In the mid-'70s Fahmy graduated from the London Polytechnic Institute, but the main education, she said, she got at the Cairo markets, studying for two years the skill of the local jewelers.
Fahmy draws Inspiration for her work from folklore, samples of Pharaonic period as well as from the Ottoman tradition. She makes nice heavy pieces of jewellery, richly decorated with precious stones. Among them there are unique sculptural rings, long necklaces, bracelets, bangles, earrings.
Fahmy’s works can be seen at fashion shows in London and New York. Azza Fahmy is working with fashion brands like Julien Mcdonald, Preen and Matthew Williamson, always finding a common language and understanding combined with jewelry texture of fabrics and clothing forms. Her products are popular among celebrities, stars of cinema and show business, who value refined craftsmanship and oriental exoticism. Among her clients - famous singer Rihanna and British soul singer, poet and actress Joss Stone.
According to Fahmi, her goal is not only to create new decorations, but also to cultivate a new generation of jewelry designers in Egypt.
In Cairo Azza Fahmy has design studios where anyone can be trained as a goldsmith and craftsman. Daughter of jeweler, Amina Ghali, also takes part in the work of the mother’s project.
